Taxonomic notes:

A molecular analysis published in 2014 (PODNAR et al., 2014) shows a splitting of the species into 2 lines that have an unusually high genetic distance. However, a formal recognition of 2 species has been dispensed with, as there are no data on nuclear DNA to date.
