Taxonomic notes:

Die ehemalige Sammelgattung Eremias wurde von SHCHERBAK (1971) in verschiedene Gattungen aufgeteilt, indem er die `sections` BOULENGER`s (1921) in Gattungsrang erhob, aber die paläarktischen Arten von Scapteira mit Eremias vereinigte. Die nun rein paläarktische Gattung teilte er in fünf Untergattungen (Eremias, Ommateremias, Pareremias, Rhabderemias, Scapteira). Nach EREMCHENKO (1999) ist die species typica der Gattung nicht Lacerta velox (= Eremias velox) sondern Lacerta variabilis (= Eremias arguta), weshalb er nun die ehemalige Ommateremias als Eremias führt und die velox-Gruppe in eine neue Untergattung Dimorphea stellt. BARABANOV & ANDREI fanden für die selbe Gruppe den Namen Aspidorhinus EICHWALD 1841 als verfügbar. Da die entsprechenden Publikationen aber in gepflegtem Russisch abgefasst und die Argumentationen somit schwer nachvollziehbar sind, werden im folgenden die Untergattungen weiter mit den von SHCHERBAK eingeführten Namen geführt.
Ähnlich wie bei Acanthodactylus wurden in den letzten Jahren zahlreiche Arten beschrieben, deren Validität in vielen Fällen zu Zweifeln Anlass gibt. Trotzdem werden hier vorderhand alle nominellen Arten (kritiklos) aufgeführt. Eine umfassende genetische Analyse der Gattung wäre in höchstem Ausmaß wünschenswert, ist bislang aber ausständig.
